Youth Baroque Bassoonist

EARLY MUSIC BIO

I am 17 years old and a senior in high school. I started playing Baroque bassoon at 13 years old under the guidance of Dr. Anna Marsh. I regularly play historically informed Baroque style music on both modern and Baroque bassoon. I have been a member of the Seattle Historical Arts for Kids - Early Music Youth Academy since 2022, and I am the recipient of Early Music America's 2023 IDEA Workshop Scholarship. During the summer of 2023, I performed at Oberlin Conservatory of Music's Baroque Performance Institute and Amherst Early Music Festival’s Baroque Academy. In 2023 and 2024, I have won several platinum, gold, absolute first, and special award prizes for Best Young Artist, Best Baroque Performance, and Best Sonata Performance in seven international competitions: World Melodia Championship (2023), Carl Reinecke International Music Competition (2023), Debussy International Music Competition (2024), Best Classical Musicians Awards (2024), World Master Open Competition (2024), World Exceptional Musicians Competition (2024), and European Classical Musical Awards (2024).  I often play for St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral in Seattle, WA for their Sunday services, and I was hired in 2023 by Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Seattle, WA to perform in their "Handel's Messiah" concert on Baroque bassoon. In January of 2024, I was offered a preconcert chat with Tess Roberts for Early Music Seattle, and in April 2024, I will perform for Early Music Seattle’s FolkLife. I am an advocate for early music/ historical performance education, and I have presented with Dr. Anna Marsh on Baroque style at the 2023 Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition and Bassoon Symposium. After presenting at Meg Quigley, I saw the need for youth outreach and created “Y-415 Connection”, which is a youth-to-youth early music outreach platform on Instagram. I am currently applying to several music conservatories in Europe that offer Bachelor programs in historical bassoon performance, and I hope to start my studies fall of 2024.
